Learning outcomes :
The objective of this course is to introduce Erasmus students to Belgium and its cultural diversity as a result of its history.
It aims to increase their cultural and historical knowledge as well as to practice French and to deepen students' vocabulary.

Course contents :
History of Belgium as a country illustrating cultural diversity in the past and present.
Highlighting the Belgian specificities and its remarkable aspects in the fields of literature, painting, comics, cinema and animation as well as science.
Belgium's relations with its French and German neighbours and Brussels as "capital of Europe".

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Lectures; participation of external contributors; analysis of documents and debates; research and presentations by students; games; visit of the BELvue museum (museum on Belgium and its history).

Assessment methods and criteria :
Continuous evaluation: 2 written papers each accounting for 40% (one collective and one individual) and one oral presentation (20%). The written papers are to be submitted for the June session. In case of failure, the student will be asked to represent the parts where he/she has failed.
