Learning outcomes :
The course pursues two objectives:
1) to initiate the students to different issues that lie at the intersection between “law, ethics and politics”;
2) to immerse the students in the Dutch language, the teaching language of this course.

Course contents :
The first part of the course proposes a theoretical reflection on a current of philosophy of law (natural law) and currents in sociology that have influenced law in its way of dealing with issues relating to society. In the second part, the course brings a reflection on the justice system and the role it plays in contemporary societies. Finally, the third part will be devoted to special issues addressed by law and justice, which raise ethical and political issues.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course is a lecture. The professor takes into account the fact that the course is given in Dutch to French-speaking students. In order to facilitate the understanding of the course, a complete syllabus in the form of continuous text and a reading file, will be available for the students. In addition, slides that offer the course outline will be shown in class and will facilitate note taking. The slides are also available for the students to help them study the course.
