Learning outcomes :
At the end of this course, the student will have learned:
• the functioning of the United Nations and the diplomatic world in general (rules of procedure, powers of the various UN bodies and committees, etc.);
• how to negotiate complex issues;
• the art of good compromise;
• the ability to be understood by the others, to understand their needs and to be included in a common project;
• to work in small teams
• Public speaking;
• to conduct research for international sources on highly specialized topics;
• synthesis of sources for the drafting of the following official documents;
• the development of critical thinking and the perpetual questioning of oneself;
• to work under stress, jetlag and tight deadlines;
• English both actively and passively.

Course contents :
The course is divided into three parts:
1) A theoretical part common to all the delegations (LIMUN, NMUN-NY, ...) addressing theoretical aspects and providing a framework of knowledge.
2) A specific part for each simulation, practice and logistics composed of various sessions supervised by the Head Delegates, the incumbent and / or the assistants, separately for each delegation. The purpose of these sessions is to learn the rules specific to the chosen simulation as well as practice the various aspects of the simulation (oral presentations, writing, rules of procedure, mini-simulations, etc.). They take place every Wednesdays at the same time but in different locations for the LIMUN / NMUN-NY from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Additional sessions may be organized during the weeks when a course is given to both groups. These sessions are determined by the assistants / delegates and delegates.
3) The actual simulation abroad

The course starts at the beginning of October, after the selection procedure, and ends at the simulation proper (end of February for LIMUN, end of March for NMUN-NY). He gives himself mainly in English.

16 students for the LIMUN and 16 students for the NMUN-NY will be selected.


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Theoretical sessions, practical sessions and a simulation.

Assessment methods and criteria :
The final grade will be based on the following distribution:

• Presence and active participation in the sessions, including a prior simulation in Belgium (ULB MUN, BruxMUN) - 25%
• Position Paper - 25%
• Participation, work and investment during the simulation - 25%
• Final report - 25%
