At the end of the course, students will be able to:

The aims of the course are:
1. Report on key aspects of the various psychological currents.
2. Have a comparative understanding of the different psychological theories.
3. Use the major concepts of psychology in a technical sense and not just in a common sense.
4. Understand and apply different approaches to communication and language in psychology to analyse various individual, interpersonal and social situations.
5. Understand and apply elements of psychopathology and of the structural theory of personality.
6. Articulate to psychopathological criteria some elements of "cultural logic" to analyse the question of normal and pathological.
7. Understand the objectives, tools and limitations of the psychiatric and psychological expert assessment.
8. Know and understand the differences in some psychotherapeutic approaches.
9. Know and understand an issue currently being debated in the discipline and its connections with other approaches in related disciplines (this year the issue discussed is the violence of youth)

The course seeks to convey the most important orientations of psychology and show its different fields of application. Therefore the course will deploy an overview of the psychological discipline, but also provide a more in depth study of some issues, particularly approaches of language and communication, as well as the field of clinical psychology, in particular the fundamental axes of psychopathology, of the personality structure and some elements relating to psychotherapies. In addition, the course will deal with issues directly related to the field of law, such as the psychological expert assessment, but also discussions about what is normal and pathological and those relating to the effects of social change on subjectivity.

Lecture

Written examination in January. If mark = 10 and 60% average in the first semester, the student will not have to present the subject matter of the first semester at the June session. Written examination in June. The assessment will focus on the course, including the minimal bibliography attached. The assessment will include three or four questions of development.
