Chair in European Values

Values such as democracy, the rule of law, freedom or solidarity are increasingly evoked in debates on Europe, both by supporters and opponents of the European project.

Take, for example, the debates on the European way of life, the existence of a European identity, the migration crisis, the crisis in the Eurozone or the rule of law in Poland or Hungary.

All these debates often provoke emotional reactions partly linked to the different (historical) sensitivities in Europe.

How can European values be mobilized to make the European project both more attractive and more democratic?
