Language combinations

Students enrolling on the BA in translation and interpreting programme may choose from one of twelve language combinations on offer:

German
Arabic (*)
Chinese (*)
Spanish
Italian
French Belgian Sign Language
Dutch
Russian
Turkish (*)

  • With German:

Italian
Dutch
Russian

For each language combination, the BA programme includes courses on developing oral and written skills, grammar and translation. Language courses are taught in French and in the foreign languages concerned.

At the end of their BA, students will have a solid understanding of their two chosen foreign languages.

(*) Courses in Chinese, Arabic and Turkish are offered in collaboration with the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ISTI-Cooremans).

French

Maternal or cultural francophone students wishing to become translators and interpreters must have a perfect command of French. The BA programme therefore places great emphasis on perfecting French language skills. It offers courses in grammar, phonetics, linguistics and lexicology, as well as courses in which students can hone their written and oral communication skills.

Optional language courses

Saint-Louis students interested in learning a third language may do so by enrolling (at preferential rates!) on optional evening/Saturday classes at the Institut libre Marie Haps, which offers a selection of some 20 languages.
