Learning outcomes :
This course aims to:
- present in their complex evolution and interactions, the main political issues that changed the world in the twentieth century;
- introduce to a better understanding of the contemporary world;
- introduce to the true dimensions of historical explanation through the acquisition of critical thinking;
- give the student the spatiotemporal markers necessary for him to develop overviews.

Course contents :
The course provides an overview of the main political, economic and social issues of the twentieth century. Emphasis is placed on international conflicts, economic and social crises, the development of fascism, the bipolarisation of international relations, the construction of Europe, decolonization, the emergence of new industrialised countries. Each year, various issues, mostly related to news topics, are analysed in more detail. For example: the Middle East problems, the question of nationalities in the former Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany and the emergence of China.


Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
This course is an ex cathedra lecture based on the analysis of iconographical texts and documents. The students will have a syllabus at their disposal at the beginning of the year.


Assessment methods and criteria :
An oral examination composed of two questions will be organised. The students will have at their disposal a preparation time of twenty minutes.
