The course aims to introduce students to the analysis of fundamental political concepts through the study of theories that contributed to determine their content.

Course contents :
The course is divided in two parts. The first part will aim to clarify the meanings given to the terms “people” and “nation”, given the interpretations to which they were subjected in political theory from Antiquity to the XXth century. The second part will be devoted to the analysis of current theoretical questions and debates about those terms.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The course includes a series of lectures, illustrated by the commentary of referential excerpts. The course syllabus includes a summary of the lectures as well as a number of bibliographical references.
Assessment methods and criteria :
The students will be assessed orally in January. They will be asked to answer one question picked at random, in relation to one section of the course. Before the examination, the students will have a preparation time to allow them to structure their answer. The students are not allowed to use their syllabus or personal notes.
