This introductory course aims at providing the students with a good overview of contemporary political sociology, of its main issues and currents of thought. The great authors and paradigms of this sub-discipline of sociology, which is closely connected to political science, will be dealt with.

The course aims at providing the students with a good overview of contemporary political sociology, of its main issues and currents of thought. It will include, among other things, a focus on power issues, State and the market, interest groups and political parties, the determinants of electoral behaviour, and political socialisation.

Lecture, but the active participation of students is welcome. Many examples from the news are used to illustrate the problems of political sociology.

The written examination includes questions assessing the knowledge of the subject matter and personal reflections starting from concrete cases.
