Dr. Amandine Orsini - Jean Monnet Module's Academic Coordinator
Amandine Orsini is Prof. of International Relations at USL-B and Guest Professor at the Institute for European Studies of ULB. She teaches courses on international relations, international organisations and Energy and Environmental Policies of the EU. She recently published two handbooks: Essential Concepts of Global Environmental Politics (2014), and The EU with(in) International Organisations (2015). Prof. Orsini’s research focuses on international and European environmental negotiations with publications in international peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Review of International Studies, Global Environmental Politics, International Studies Review). She is a member of, among others, the International Network Earth System Governance, the collective research projects CIRCULEX and REFRACT and organises annually the WIRE workshops series. She is Academic Coordinator and teaches the POLLEN's training session.
Dr. Nicolas DE SADELEER - Speaker and member of the Jury
Nicolas de Sadeleer is Professor of Law at USL-B where he teaches EU law, comparative law and environmental law. He has been a guest professor at many universities, including currently at Université catholique de Louvain and at Universidade da Coruña (Spain). He held an EU Marie Curie Chair on Risk Assessment and Risk Management at the law faculty of the Universitetet i Oslo in 2004-2005 and from 2010-2014 he held a Jean Monnet Chair focusing on the trade and environment conflict. Prof. de Sadeleer is the author of Environmental Principles (2002) and EU Environmental Law and the Internal Market (2014). He has published extensively in English, French and Spanish on international environmental law, EU institutional law, and EU environmental law in international peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Journal of Environmental & Planning Law, Revue du Droit de l’Union européenne). He gives the Introductory lecture (4 hrs/yr) and sits on the My POLLEN Talks’ Jury.
Dr. Benjamin DENIS - Speaker and member of the Jury
Benjamin Denis is Climate Advisor at the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), currently deals mainly with the EU climate and energy policy framework and related ETUC projects (e.g. Green Workplace). Besides his activities at ETUC, he is Visiting Professor at USL-B where he is in charge of two seminars in Political Science. Before joining ETUC,
he used to be an expert for the Belgian Federal Ministry of the Environment (2009-2012) where he primarily worked on international climate finance. In that capacity, he has been active in various EU expert groups as well as in the UNFCCC process. Holding a PhD in Political Science (Université libre de Bruxelles, 2006), he is the author of Global Environmental Facility (2014) and has more than ten years of experience in the field of climate change policy, mainly at European and International levels. He gives a lecture (2.5 hrs/yr) and sits on the My POLLEN Talks’ Jury.
Teresa ELOLA-CALDERON - Project Officer
Teresa Elola-Calderon holds a Law degree from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and a Master's degree in International Relations and European Integration from Université de Liège (ULg). At IES USL-B, she assists in all aspects of management, supports in the preparation of EU Projetcs' Design and helps increase student involvement in and public awareness of IES USL-B research activities. Prior to joining IES USL-B, she worked as Research Assistant at ULg and at IFOAM EU Group. She participated as a member of the Belgian Presidency of the EU in the COP16 and coordinated the working group “Measuring, Reporting and Verification”. She published La politique de l’eau de l’Union européenne : vers une gestion quantitative des ressources hydriques ? (2010) and co-edited Organic Agriculture: a Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation (2012), among others. She is the Project Officer in charge of the POLLEN academic afffairs, research dissemination and budgetary issues.
Eleni KAVVATHA - Research Officer
Eleni Kavvatha holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Governance and Sustainable Development, from Panteion University of Political and Social Studies in Athens. She also has a Bachelor in International and European Studies. At IES USL-B, she works as a Research Officer and Research Assistant and she will be in charge of animating the online platform that will allow participants to engage in fruitful discussions ahead of the start of the programme. She will also teach the training session with Prof. Amandine Orsini. Her Master Thesis is on the Protection of Vulnerable Ecosystems with specific focus in the Arctic region and the role of the EU. She also had the opportunity to study Energy Environment and Sustainable Development in UiO and publish a report for the High North Center for Business and Governance on the High North Dialogue Conference held in Bodo, Norway, as well as report on the interview of Paavo Lipponen, former Prime Minister of Finland, winner of the 2016 High North Hero Award. Prior to to joining the IES USL-B she has worked as a Research Officer and Research assistant in Greece and Norway and is the co-creator of a business plan for sustainable solutions to address Climate Change, by designing rainwater drainage systems for refugee camps, in collaboration with Climate-KIC.
